Responsibilities
Anaylzes, administers, and maintains telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure.
Assigns tasks by Coordinators related to service orders and repair activities for Category 6 cabling, VoIP, and fiber optics.
Dresses, terminates, and tests cables and components; works with power tools and ladders.
Computer literate with basic networking skills; communicates effectively with supervisors and colleagues.
Interprets service orders, circuit diagrams, and electrical schematics.
Tests, locates, installs, and repairs cabling infrastructure associated with trouble calls; performs routine maintenance.
Verifies work order information and receipt of necessary equipment.
Verifies service by testing installed cabling; identifies, corrects, or escalates problems.
Uses network cabling test equipment such as network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs, and power meters.
Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; records configuration diagrams and specifications.
Maintains network by troubleshooting outages, testing backup procedures, and updating documentation.
Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies.
Participates in special projects as required.
Identifies, tracks, and removes abandoned cable; keeps cable neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety standards.
Qualifications
Active DoD Top Secret clearance.
Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline or equivalent education, training, or experience.
3–5 years of related telecommunications experience.
Familiar with TIA/EIA standards and BICSI recommendations on cabling infrastructure.
Experience as a MAC Technician – moves, adds, and changes in cabling infrastructure, primarily for VIP in the DC Metro area.
Strong communication, customer‑support, problem‑analysis, and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
Willingness to work after hours when needed (typically 2–5 hours per calendar year).
Valid driver’s license to operate a government vehicle from the fleet.
Onsite location at the Pentagon, Arlington, VA.
