Job Summary The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Groundskeeper Supervisor on the Dahlonega campus. The primary job duty of the Grounds Supervisor is the supervision of a University groundskeeping crew of up to eight personnel. Position will direct the planting, pruning, and cultivating of trees, shrubs, and flowers, and the seeding, fertilizing, mowing, and trimming of all University grounds. The Grounds Supervisor also supervises the removal of snow, ice, leaves, fallen branches, other weather-generated debris, and trash from all University grounds, instructs groundskeepers in the proper use of tools and equipment, and assists the Grounds Manager in administration and management of grounds landscape and maintenance functions. Responsibilities
Supervises labor crews in grounds care activities such as mowing lawns, gardening, landscaping, blowing, trimming, and snow/ice removal. Responsible for managing and approving employees daily time input, approving vacation, conducting annual performance evaluations, and for initiating discipline measures where warranted.
As a working Supervisor, participates in grounds maintenance work; proficient with all hand and power tools in the inventory; operates heavy equipment including: dozers, skid steers, forklifts, backhoes, tractors, mowers, trucks, and other mobile equipment. Responsible to train all personnel on equipment operation and safety procedures. Must be capable of making on-the-spot decisions relative to grounds maintenance and safety.
Assigns duties to subordinates, creates schedules, and inspects the work of personnel on a daily basis. Ensures user level maintenance is being executed on all assigned equipment.
Conducts landscaping planning and confers with the Grounds Manager for implementation. Works with outside contractors as needed.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned, encourage team work and promote a positive work environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to lead, train, and supervise up to eight groundskeeper personnel.
Must be a master of equipment operation ranging from hand power tools to heavy equipment.
Able to train personnel on equipment preventive maintenance procedures and the safe operation of the same.
Experience with the methods, materials, and equipment used in planting, cultivating, and trimming a variety of types of trees, shrubs, plants, ground cover, and grasses.
Must have the ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time, often in adverse weather conditions.
Must be able to work at heights up to 65 feet; have the ability to bend, reach, stoop, and lift.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Five (5) years of grounds/landscaping experience.
Must possess a valid State of Georgia Driver's License, and personal cell phone.
Preferred Qualifications
Pesticide license preferred.
Experience in the proper use, control, storage, and disposal of pesticides, fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides, and similar chemicals is preferred.
Proposed Salary Minimum Starting Salary : $18.34 per hour
