Job Description
Special Education Resource Room Teacher Plan and implement an educational program for students identified with disabilities according to state/federal guidelines. Use intervention techniques and classroom management methods to support instructional goals. Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, support staff, and administrators to provide appropriate services. District Overview

The district has 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, a career technical center, an early childhood center, and a vocational and transition center. Bachelor’s degree in special education or related field. Valid K‑12 Michigan Teaching Certificate with endorsements in SM, SA, SE, SV, or CI (preferred). Major in the subject area strongly preferred. The resource teacher for students with disabilities is assigned to the Department of Student Services, responsible for the system‑wide program for students with disabilities. After assignment to a building(s), the teacher reports directly to the principal. Major Functions and Responsibilities
Evaluate students using formal and informal procedures to assess strengths and challenges. Write instructional objectives in the affective, psychomotor, and cognitive domains for students with disabilities. Assist students in developing behavior and social skills. Develop lesson plans to provide appropriate instruction in all academic areas. Assist in the development of Behavior Intervention Plans and ensure their implementation. Prepare progress reports and yearly evaluations; monitor and communicate IEP goal progress. Participate in individualized educational planning and placement committees. Adapt the curriculum, instruction, and lessons to provide small‑group or remedial instruction. Provide opportunities for students to explore life and career goals. Maintain student records in accordance with guidelines and statutes. Read journals, attend seminars, conferences, and discuss problems with peers. Encourage students to think independently and express original ideas. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior for a safe classroom. Identify student needs and collaborate with staff to assess and assist students. Communicate with students, parents, and counselors on progress. Supervise students to ensure a school climate consistent with district vision. Administer and monitor group tests. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Procedures
