Role Mission Students and families are the most important stakeholders at IDEA Public Schools. The role of School Counselor leads the campus family engagement vision, social emotional learning program, and coordination of mental health and counseling supports for all scholars on the campus.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the execution of the school vision for retaining all students, directing and managing stakeholders, family engagement, and student persistence.

Provide individual/group counseling for at‑risk students and refer students who need intense or specialized services to campus‑based Licensed Mental Health Provider and/or outside agencies.

Lead the planning and execution of student and family engagement events, professional development, data management, and partnerships with grade‑level teams.

Coaches and develops teachers to work with all students and families.

Maintain knowledge of community agencies, administer state‑mandated guidance lessons, and provide crisis response support.

Conduct individual and group check‑ins, advising meetings, and surveys with students and parents.

Manage campus overall student persistence data, ensure 100% accuracy and reporting, and collaborate with PEIMS team.

Support new student onboarding and family engagement programs, ensuring high‑quality on‑boarding from day one.

Drive attendance initiatives, identify barriers, conduct home visits, and manage the Mission List for chronic absenteeism.

Facilitate teacher training on Move This World curriculum, conduct observations, track progress, and report outcomes.

Collaborate with stakeholders to meet district expectations for family engagement and social emotional learning priorities; produce campus reports and support crisis data reporting.

Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related field.

Experience: Previous experience in a school or school setting.

License or Certification: Valid TX School Counselor certification or counseling licensure (LMSW, LCSW, LCSW‑S, LPC‑A, LPC, LMFT‑A, LMFT) required.

Proven track record of success and excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to manage student behavior and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment.

What We Offer Compensation Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $68,886 and $79,908, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for a performance bonus based on team performance and goal attainment.
