Program Overview Professional day and orientation: July 1, 2, and 3 (July 3 is half day). Program dates: July 7, 2025 – August 1, 2025. Location: Washington-Liberty. Model: IN-PERSON.
Responsibilities
Assist an individual student as a 1:1 or group with classroom activities and IEP goals under the guidance and direction of a teacher or assignment given by the Office of Special Education.
Assist with classroom and behavior management plans under teacher guidance and direction.
Collaborate with school staff, related service providers, student services staff, and families.
Perform other tasks as assigned by teacher, site‑administrator, or coordinator.
Experience Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds. One year working with students who have disabilities.
Qualifications
Required: Graduation from high school or equivalent education; and 60 college credits from a regionally accredited college/university; or a qualifying score on the ParaPro (455 or better).
Preferred: Reliable, dependable, flexible, and punctual; flexible and willing to work as a team; knowledge of the needs of students with disabilities; ability to take initiative appropriately.
Compensation Summer School Assistants who are APS employees during the year: hourly rate or $16.68/hr, whichever is higher. Non‑APS Assistants: $16.68 per hour. Retired APS Assistants: $25.68 per hour. (Salary earned during summer school will not be included in the employee’s creditable compensation reported to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).)
