Job Purpose and Summary This is a seasonal position that is designed to provide routine support in the construction, maintenance, repair, and appearance of the landscaping/grounds for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC). Work is initially reviewed closely, and close supervision is received when new work processes or procedures are introduced, however, employees are expected to perform with limited guidance after the work process is learned.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Operate hand tools and light equipment, including a compact tractor with attachments, to maintain landscaping.
Plant, maintain, and prune trees, shrubs, and perennials.
Remove materials, debris, and objects from walkways, ramps, parking lots, etc.
Assist with the maintenance and repair of irrigation systems.
Perform assigned, non‑complex, routine building maintenance and/or custodial duties.
Operate a radio to receive calls and dispatch messages.
Operate office equipment as needed.
Perform special projects related to the business unit, as assigned.
Use situational awareness to anticipate and prevent accidents.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent certification.
Must be currently enrolled in, or accepted to, a post‑secondary educational program, such as college or trade school, or entering a basic training program for the United States Armed Services during the Summer or Fall.
Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

Physical Demands and Work Environment Position demands include frequent speaking, both in person and by telephone. May require long periods of sitting, standing, or bending. Position requires the physical capability to operate and carry heavy tools/equipment up to 50 pounds without the assistance of a lifting device. Works overhead or in a bending/squatting position frequently. Exposure to some undesirable or unpleasant environmental conditions. May have exposure to high temperatures, heights, dust, noise, and chemicals. Environment could be wet/damp. Physical environment is generally safe, but safety equipment or precautions must be followed in field conditions.
