Job Summary The Underground Distribution Lineman A assists Journeyman Lineman and the Foreman while in training and learning the trade. The role supports the Line team, performing diversified work related to construction and maintenance of poles, power lines, and auxiliary facilities. Set a good example for newer apprentices by following and teaching safe practices.
Responsibilities
Construct, maintain, and inspect transmission and distribution of electrical lines.
Provide technical skills needed for operation and maintenance of reliable electrical services, completing jobs with quality and timeliness.
Connect and disconnect, install and remove, move and transfer electrical devices on customer facilities (e.g., transformers, regulator switches, capacitor banks).
Route or reroute power lines over, under, or around existing lines and structures.
Inspect and remove damaged power lines.
Assist in carrying poles, digging holes, and related operations for pole setting or replacement.
Perform line switching or sectionalizing as directed.
Assist in on‑job training of apprentices and crew members in maintenance and construction of power lines.
Submit all Apprentice Program required documentation on time.
May troubleshoot electrical problems on customer equipment.
Drive bucket truck to job sites and maintain truck stock.
Investigate consumer complaints and make repairs to energized electrical distribution lines.
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
3 years of Lineman A experience.
Current and valid Class A CDL.
Preferred
5 or more years of experience.
OSHA 10 Certification.
Physical Demands and Work Environment This job operates in a field environment, requiring extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, and twisting. Work may occur in inclement weather, including extreme heat, cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind. Lifting up to 50 pounds is required. Vision and hand‑eye coordination for distance judgment and color distinction are necessary.
