CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - Westover Hills (CSRH-WH) is a 150‑bed hospital serving the fastest‑growing area of San Antonio.

The campus offers orthopedic and surgical services, ICU, women’s services, a newborn nursery, comprehensive cardiovascular care, vascular lab, sleep center, emergency services, the CHRISTUS Weight Loss Institute, wound care, rehabilitation, an Outpatient Imaging Center, and three medical plazas—including the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency Program and the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family Health Center.

Summary Provides timely and sensitive spiritual care to patients, families, associates, and physicians via individual and group interactions; systematically gathers data to provide ongoing spiritual assessment and develops, implements, and documents spiritual plans of care; participates as a member of interprofessional teams to identify needs and develop specialized spiritual care services; plans and facilitates rituals and worship services; collects data to self‑monitor quality and effectiveness; serves as a teaching resource about spirituality, spiritual needs, and their connection to health outcomes; assists with debriefing and support of associates after major events.

Responsibilities

Assesses, provides, and documents effective spiritual care in crisis intervention, grief, bereavement, end‑of‑life, and faith‑crisis situations.

Gathers data for ongoing spiritual assessment.

Develops and implements a spiritual plan of care.

Documents assessments and plans in the patient’s medical record.

Participates as a member of the palliative care team.

Participates as a member of interprofessional teams to identify needs and develop care plans.

Plans and facilitates worship services as needed.

Provides spiritual care to associates through individual and group interactions.

Collects data to monitor quality and effectiveness.

Creates specialized spiritual care services for specific areas of assignment.

Teaches about spirituality, spiritual needs, and the connection with health outcomes.

Assists with debriefing and support of associates after major events.

Provides spiritual and religious resources as requested.

Introduces patients/families to the services of the spiritual care department.

Contacts community clergy as requested.

Functions effectively under stress, coping with crises, and responding creatively to change.

Provides hospitality to visiting clergy.

Serves as an ethics resource for removing/withholding life‑sustaining treatment.

Acts as a clinical partner or mentor to pastoral education interns.

Adheres to the CHRISTUS Health associate covenant and code of ethics.

Respects confidentiality of all information.

Demonstrates cultural humility and sensitivity toward patient populations.

Performs miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the director of spiritual care.

Requirements Education

Master’s degree in divinity, theology, pastoral ministry, or spirituality (required unless certification level does not require).

Completion of at least four units of clinical pastoral education.

Experience

Minimum one year of supervised ministry in a clinical setting post‑certification; experience presenting to or with other clinicians preferred.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

Certification by APC, NACC, or CPSP.

Endorsement by leader of faith community.
