About Mentor A Promise Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability. Through mentorship, literacy development, social-emotional learning, creative expression, and storytelling, MAP creates safe, consistent, and empowering spaces where young people are seen, respected, and valued.
MAP’s video work captures real moments of learning, creativity, and community—bringing stories to life through simple, authentic visuals.
Purpose of the Role The Video Lead supports MAP’s storytelling and communications efforts by capturing clean, usable video footage using a phone or single-camera setup. This role focuses on basic framing, lighting, and visual consistency to document programs, events, interviews, and creative projects.
Key Responsibilities
Shoot video footage using a phone or single-camera setup
Capture programs, interviews, events, and storytelling content
Apply basic framing, composition, and lighting techniques
Coordinate with communications and creative teams on shot needs
Ensure footage is steady, clear, and properly lit
Organize and upload raw footage according to MAP guidelines
Follow consent, privacy, and youth-safety protocols at all times
Participate in planning calls or shoot briefings as needed
Check and respond to emails daily, with responses within 48 hours
Qualifications
Experience shooting video on a phone or basic camera setup
Working knowledge of basic framing, lighting, and sound awareness
Access to a smartphone or camera capable of recording clear videoComfort working in live, real-world environments
Sensitivity to working in youth-centered and trauma-informed spaces
Strong communication, reliability, and follow-through
Commitment
Volunteer role, approximately 5–10 hours per week
Minimum 6-month commitment preferred
NYC-based shoots with remote coordination as needed
