Position Overview The School Cafeteria Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving nutritious meals to students and staff in accordance with school nutrition guidelines. This role ensures food safety, maintains a clean kitchen environment, and supports the overall mission of promoting healthy eating habits in the school community.
Key Responsibilities
Meal Preparation & Cooking: Plan, prepare, and cook meals following established menus and dietary guidelines, adjusting recipes to meet portion requirements and special dietary needs.
Food Safety & Sanitation: Follow all food safety regulations, including proper storage, handling, and labeling; maintain cleanliness of kitchen, equipment, and serving areas.
Serving & Customer Service: Serve meals efficiently and courteously to students and staff, monitor portion sizes to ensure fairness and compliance with nutrition standards.
Inventory & Supplies: Assist with ordering, receiving, and storing food and supplies, track inventory and report shortages or equipment issues.
Teamwork & Collaboration: Work closely with cafeteria staff, school administrators, and nutrition coordinators; support special events or programs requiring food service.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience in food preparation, cooking, or food service preferred.
Knowledge of food safety standards (ServSafe certification a plus).
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Positive attitude and commitment to serving children.
Work Environment
Fast‑paced school cafeteria setting.
Interaction with students, staff, and other food service workers.
Schedule aligned with school hours (may include early mornings).
