Syndeo Staffing is hiring several part-time / temporary Gallery Attendants who will be responsible for specialized work that encompasses strong visitor service as well as surveillance and security duties for the Wichita Art Museum. An individual in this position interacts positively with the public who visit museum galleries and attend museum programs. The Attendant will prevent disorderly conduct and/or damage to works of art and museum property.
As a Gallery Attendant, you must work independently and use discretion and judgment to handle situations that arise. The right person may also coordinate with a team of other gallery attendants to balance and effectively execute daily security functions. The Gallery Attendant is a temporary position requiring flexible scheduling to work during evening and weekend open hours and/or events.
Responsibilities
Provide direction and information to the public
Monitor security of property, especially artwork on display, against fire, theft, and vandalism
Make daily superficial examination of artwork on display and record/report any evidence of damage or deterioration
Maintain discipline in and around the building and grounds
Perform crowd control functions as needed
Contact maintenance staff as needed
Contact law enforcement as needed
Opens and closes the Museum
Operate and monitor electronic security systems and cameras
Directs visitors in the evacuation of premises at times of emergency
Ensures that adequate lighting is provided when and where needed
Various other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required
1+ year security experience in museum, zoo, or non-profit organization (preferred)
Comfortable interacting with members of the public in a professional manner
Able to walk for extended periods while remaining quiet and observant
Capable of recognizing hazardous events and responding quickly and appropriately
Able to accurately use and comprehend a logbook
Basic understanding of security system operations
Able to understand and follow instructions, rules, and procedures
Familiar with basic life safety methods and regulationsProficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word
Strong self-management and organizational skills
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to complete projects
Physically able to
Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted
Push a cart with up to 60 pounds of resistance
Stand, sit, bend, kneel, squat, and walk for more than 2 hours at a time
Wage, Schedule & Dress Code
$13/hour; Part-time flexible schedules available for a specific art event running Jan 31 - May 10
Regular work attendance required on evenings and weekends
Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, &Sunday 9:45 AM - 5:00 PM Fridays are split shift 9:45 AM-3:30 PM/3:00 PM-9:00 PM
