strengthens children and families with skills, opportunities, and emotional support to build healthy, successful lives. Founded in 1953, The Child Center of NY has become a powerful community presence throughout the city. With 50 locations and 100 programs in NYC’s most under-served communities, our 1,000+ results-oriented professionals make a difference for more than 40,000 children and their families each year. Peer Specialist/Youth Advocates are employed to provide youth with peer/community support, and to act as advocates within the program as well as the community. Duties: Model professional behavior in the workplace, assists with the coordination of social skills activities, act as youth mentors, provides peer support and advocacy. Develop supportive relationships with program clients and advocate for consumers, as needed. Assist with the coordination and planning of leisure activities, co-facilitate career club groups and workshops. Escort clients to various appointments including social security, DMV, GED exam test dates, entitlements, etc. as needed. Answer and screen all calls for Intakes on provided company phone. Document all outreach contacts/calls/messages daily in the weekly log. Assist the employment specialist and transitional facilitator in follow up calls to clients and report feedback via face to face meetings and email. Assist and collaborate with other staff regarding referrals, and other services. Update the Career Club database forms on excel with employment specialist on a weekly basis. Assist Program Director with monthly program statistics. Provide presentations to consumers and educate about community services. Maintain appropriate documentation as required including progress notes and service plans. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications:
Young adult with a high school diploma or GED and personal experience as a consumer in the child and adolescent services system. Must be proficient in Microsoft office. Some college preferred.
