JOB GOAL The goal of this teaching role is to lead excellent math instruction in upper-level courses such as Math 3, Math 4, Honors Math 3/4, Precalculus, AP Precalculus, Statistics, or other advanced math courses. Math teachers at this level ensure students master the conceptual, procedural, and applied aspects of the North Carolina Standards (NCOS) while preparing them for college-level mathematics, STEM majors, and real-world problem solving.
Math teachers play a critical role in ensuring students:
Build advanced algebraic, geometric, and statistical reasoning
Apply mathematical literacy to STEM models and design challenges
Are ready for college readiness exams and postsecondary STEM pathways
Success in this role includes maximizing student proficiency on state assessments, demonstrating high growth scores, and cultivating confident, capable mathematical thinkers.

As a Math 3+ teacher, you are helping Lead the Future of STEM Education.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Excellent Instruction You will deliver high-quality instruction in Math 3 or advanced math courses that drive mastery of the NCOS standards. You will utilize RTHS’s instructional model, including:
Technology-enhanced instruction
Collaborative learning routines
Problem-based and project-based STEM applications
Clear and intentional didactic instruction
At-home learning that reinforces conceptual understanding
2. Student & Family Community You will:
Build a strong, safe classroom culture that supports risk-taking and deep thinking
Support diverse learners with strong classroom management and differentiation
Engage families in understanding student progress, growth opportunities, and strategies for at-home support
Participate in IEP/504 meetings as needed
3. Curricular Planning & Design You will collaborate with the academic team to design and implement rigorous, standards-aligned units and lessons that meet the needs of learners taking upper-level courses. This includes:
Using high-quality curricular resources
Developing assessments that measure readiness for advanced math
Integrating STEM applications into higher-order math tasks
4. Professional Learning You will engage in bi-weekly coaching that supports improvement in:
Content internalization
Higher-level questioning techniques
Classroom management and student engagement
Differentiation for advanced mathematics
5. Data-Driven Culture You will analyze assessment data with grade-level teams to:
Identify learning gaps for Math 3 or higher
Adjust instruction to support readiness for college-preparatory math
Develop interventions, enrichments, and feedback cycles
6. Collaboration You will work within the math department to:
Co-plan lessons
Align vertical coherence from Math 1 through AP-level courses
Review student work and assessments
Participate in department- and schoolwide initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS Experience
2+ years of teaching experience preferred
Experience teaching Math 3, Math 4, Precalculus, AP Precalculus, Statistics, or comparable upper-level courses
Demonstrated ability to use technology to drive deeper mathematical understanding
Strong understanding of North Carolina Math standards
Familiarity with the NC Educator Evaluation System and the North Carolina Beginning Teacher Support Program (or willingness to learn)
Education
Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Mathematics, Math Education, or a STEM field preferred
