to support our Agroecology Initiative across Appleton, Powisset, and Chestnut Hill Farms.

Salary: $18.50 per hour
Hours per week: 30‑40
Job type: Onsite, Seasonal (May 5 – August 25)
Location: Appleton Farms, Powisset Farm, and Chestnut Hill Farm in Ipswich, MA
What You’ll Do
Assist with implementation of field experiments: grazing impacts on grassland nesting birds, native willows for water quality, and multifunctional perennial hedgerows.
Carry out maintenance protocols, including planting, mulching, weeding, and string trimming.
Participate in vegetation surveys, invasive species mapping, and grassland bird monitoring across the farms.
Record and enter data into existing systems.
Requirements
Comfort working in and around livestock (cattle)
Professional or amateur birding experience
Coursework in botany, ecology, environmental science, or a related field
Ability to work independently and collaborate with staff and volunteers
Self‑transportation to job sites (mileage reimbursement available)
Preferred
Experience with livestock or field agriculture
At least 3 months of previous field experience
Experience performing vegetation surveys
Strong botanical skill, plant identification in Massachusetts, and invasive plant knowledge
GIS mapping skills
