Yard Associate – McCray Lumber & Millwork
Job Summary: The Yard position will stock, gather, distribute, assemble orders, and load various products of the lumberyard to fulfill customer orders for pickup and/or delivery.
Responsibilities
Safely move freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, or containers, by hand or using trucks, tractors, or other equipment.
Read customer order, shipping order, or requisition to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
Load and unload trucks.
Sort and place items on racks according to predetermined sequence.
Operate forklift truck or hand truck to move or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to warehouse storage or work area.
Assemble customer orders from stock and place orders on pallets or shelves or convey orders to shipping department.
Stack lumber in yard or in shed.
Drive diesel or gasoline powered industrial trucks equipped with lifting devices such as forklift to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or move products, equipment, or materials.
Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
Seeks to learn products and the applications.
Knows product locations in yard and warehouse.
Ability to read a measuring tape.
Keeps forklift clean.
Maintains yard cleanliness during course of work.
Safety Requirements
Wears high visibility, safety PPE, and proper uniform.
Performs daily lift inspections.
Always looks behind and honks horn when backing or rounding blind corners.
Safely operates equipment.
Promptly reports all accidents/incidents and damaged products.
Performs daily safety audit of forklift and promptly reports any malfunctioning equipment.
Keeps aisles and exits clear.
Participates on safety committee if needed.
Environmental Demands
Exposure to year-round outside weather conditions, including excessive heat, humidity, rain, cold, dust, ice/snow.
Employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
The noise level is usually moderate.
