Job Title Forensic Technician 1 – Part‑time (28 Hours/Week). Location: Farmington, CT.

Introduction The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) is a state‑wide medical examiner system located on the UCONN Health Center Campus. This role investigates sudden and unexpected deaths within jurisdictional limits.

Schedule 28 hours per week on a rotating 2‑week schedule: Monday–Friday 9:00 am–4:30 pm; Saturday–Sunday 8:00 am–3:30 pm. On‑call and holiday coverage is required.

Responsibilities

Prepare bodies for autopsies and subsequent release to funeral directors.

Assist in the performance of autopsies, collection of relevant information, and removal of organs.

Collect body fluids, retain specimens for special studies, and prepare fixative solutions.

Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of autopsy facilities and equipment.

Assist in the maintenance of appropriate records.

Take fingerprints, photographs, and X‑rays as required.

Lift bodies of various weights and sizes, pick up decomposed and traumatized bodies, and manage clothing and valuables inventory.

Maintain chain of custody of body and evidence from crime scenes.

Assist in removal of bodies from hospitals or secured crime‑scene areas.

Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications • One (1) year of experience in a morgue, laboratory, hospital or funeral home. • Current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

One (1) year experience in a morgue, laboratory, hospital or funeral home.

Availability to respond to emergency calls.

Experience lifting bodies of varying weights and sizes.

Willingness to undergo periodic tests or immunizations for communicable diseases, as necessary.

Special Requirements

Must possess and retain a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

May be required to travel and must be available for emergency calls.

Physical Requirements Incumbent must be willing to undergo periodic testing or immunization for communicable diseases and must be able to lift bodies.

Working Conditions Incumbent will lift bodies and be exposed to strongly disagreeable conditions.
