Head Start Universal Pre-K Teacher - Syracuse QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education, or in a related field supplemented by 18 credit hours in early childhood education. Have or obtain within three years of hire a valid NYS teaching certificate (birth through 2nd grade or nursery through 6th grade). One year of early childhood lead teacher experience.

Responsibilities

Ensure that all children assigned to class are supervised at all times. Perform regular counts of children assigned to ensure that they are all accounted for.

Establish and maintain a safe, healthy, learning environment.

Advance physical and intellectual competence to promote higher level thinking skills.

Support social and emotional development through attachment, initiative and self regulation and provide positive guidance.

Establish positive and productive relationships with families.

Ensure a well‑run, purposeful program, responsive to participant needs.

Collaborate with other staff as appropriate and be responsible for planning, record keeping and observations and individualizations.

Ensure that the sponsoring school district's requirements are met.

Report incidents and concerns of child abuse or neglect as a mandated reporter.

REQUIRED SKILLS Ability to work in a team environment. Solid interpersonal and communication skills with adults and young children.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT Physical Demands:

Able to reach with hands and arms; able to see, speak and hear; able to lift, push and pull. Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment: Typical classroom setting. Must be able to handle the stresses of competing, often simultaneous demands.

Schedule 37.5 hours/week, 45 weeks/year.

Starting Pay Range $27.27 to $30.60 per hour depending upon qualifications.
