When applying for part-time adjunct faculty, you are submitting your application to the School of Construction and Design (on-ground or online) adjunct faculty pool. We will accept applications on a continuing basis. There may or may not be a hiring need at this time in your area of interest. The program coordinators access the applicant pool when there is a hiring need.

Job Summary The School of Construction and Design at the University of Southern Mississippi invites applications to establish a pool of qualified applicants for current and future part-time Adjunct Faculty appointments (online and/or face-to-face). Successful applicants may teach up to six semester credit hours (2 courses per semester) of undergraduate courses in Construction Management, Architectural Engineering Technology, or Interior Design online or face-to-face on our Hattiesburg, MS campus.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Preparing course syllabus, lectures, assignments, and other course components as necessary.

Using Canvas to manage the course.

Utilizing effective teaching methods to ensure that all course outcomes are met.

Timely evaluation of student work with constructive feedback, and assignment of grades.

Being available to students for Q&A.

Submission of course assessments to the Program Coordinator for accreditation purposes.

Minimum Qualifications

For CM: Master’s degree in a construction-related discipline and a minimum of 5 years relevant construction/design industry experience.

For AET and ID: 5 year Professional degree with minimum 2 year experience in architecture.

For CM: Ability to provide high-quality in‑person instruction in areas such as project management, estimating, scheduling, project control, materials and methods, safety, and structural design.

For AET and ID: Ability to provide high-quality in‑person instruction in areas such as Architectural Design studios, Pre‑Design, or Architectural Construction Documents.

Working knowledge in design and documentation software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Suite as well as rendering software.

Previous online teaching experience if applying for online adjunct faculty.

Demonstrated student‑centered approach to teaching and learning.

Demonstrated commitment to collegiality and evidence of effective communication skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

Knowledge of construction management, architectural engineering technology, or interior design, including current industry practices and standards.

Ability to teach undergraduate‑level courses and clearly communicate technical content to all student populations.

Skill in preparing course materials, assessing student performance, and using instructional technologies effectively.

Ability to integrate practical, industry‑based examples into instruction to support applied learning.

Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff while maintaining academic standards and complying with university policies.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous college level teaching experience.

Significant construction industry experience.

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
