Since opening in 2012 in Portland, Maine, we’ve grown into a community hub for locals and visitors alike. We roast our own coffee and have two cafe locations in Portland - our first is on Anderson St in Portland's popular East Bayside which operates as a tasting room to our roastery there with elevated coffee service and selections. The second is a James Beard-nominated bakery on Congress St in Portland's West End that has been featured in Bon Appétit.Tandem as a whole is a team of passionate, creative folks who care about quality, kindness, and a lot of humor. Join us in shaping what’s next at either of our cafe locations or in our roastery!#### **What You'll Do**We're looking for an experienced baker who can / has:* At least **3 to 5 years*** Team-oriented work ethic and ability to understand how to manage your feelings around other people, ability to listen to others, and to ask questions* Understand, maintain, follow recipes and practices that adhere to and uphold Tandem’s aesthetic and quality commitment* have respect for and a desire to be involved in the majority of bakery operations and atmosphere* Familiarity using large-scale kitchen equipment such as mixers, scales, ovens, stove, blenders, knives, food processors and other equipment* Possess excellent communication skills with coworkers and managers, have the ability to bring any inventory, production or equipment needs to the management’s attention in a timely manner* Demonstrate excellent time management skills with the ability to take direction as well as self-direct during slow periods.* Work with a sense of urgency, creativity and ability to make decisions with consideration and professionalism.* be comfortable asking questions and receiving direction and critique, both in the moment, as well as in scheduled check-ins and reviews#### **Qualifications:*** consistent attendance and punctuality with availability both early mornings (4 am), weekends and holidays* comfortable working in an open and bustling kitchen around many other employees, as well as front facing to customers* ability to follow prep lists, recipes, written and verbal direction* ability to mix and shape pastries by hand, and understand how to use commercial ovens and stoves* consistent attention to detail, cleanliness, and organization* ability to perform physical tasks - lift 50 lbs above waist and stand for long periods* follow food service safety protocols#### **What You'll Get**As a part of our team, we’re excited to offer…* $20/hourly wage + percentage of tips + annual bonus* Accrued Paid time off* Monthly contribution towards optional health and dental insurance* 401k matching after one year* Discount on Tandem products and free coffee beans and drinks* Fun team gatherings, including our annual retreat!#### **Job & Application Details**This is a full-time, hourly position that reports to the Kitchen Manager.
