Required Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.

Current and valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with English as a Second Language (NS) K-12 Endorsement.

Proven ability to manage a diverse classroom effectively, fostering a respectful and productive learning environment.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engaging with students, parents, and colleagues.

Skilled in conflict resolution and positive discipline techniques.

Proficient in educational technology tools such as Google Classroom, SMART Boards, and educational apps.

Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.

Strong organizational skills for managing classroom activities and maintaining accurate student records.

Self-motivated and capable of motivating others towards academic achievement.

Key Responsibilities:

Upon completion of assessments and collaboration with General Education teachers, ESL Teacher will pull students out in groups or push in for intensive work to improve math and/or reading/language arts skills.

Assist general education teachers in the assessment and identification of students math and/or reading/language arts proficiency levels to create math and/or reading/language arts groups, and work with general education teachers to create a collaborative plan for addressing the needs of those identified students.

Communicate with Administrators, general education teacher’s, paraprofessionals and parents regularly regarding student progress.

Intercepts deterioration in achievement by counseling students with academic difficulties; drawing on the school system’s resources for additional academic assistance.

Develop and implement dynamic, standards-aligned lesson plans utilizing diverse teaching techniques (e.g., project-based learning, digital resources, field trips) to engage K-12 students.

Cultivate a positive, disciplined, and inclusive classroom environment through effective behavior management and individualized student support.

Monitor student progress through assignments, tests, and standardized assessments, providing constructive feedback and tailored academic assistance.

Maintain open and consistent communication with parents regarding student academic performance, attendance, and social development.

Collaborate with colleagues and school leadership to enhance curriculum, share best practices, and contribute to a cohesive educational team.

Ensure a safe, secure, and healthy educational environment by establishing and enforcing classroom procedures and complying with legal regulations.

Participate in professional development opportunities, faculty meetings, and professional organizations to continuously update job knowledge and teaching methodologies.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical duties typical of an elementary school teacher, including lifting up to 25 pounds, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, reaching overhead, and maintaining classroom order. Manual dexterity for computer and telephone use is required.
