Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Per Diem, Switchboard Operator – Night Shift – Mineola. In this role, the successful candidate will answer all incoming calls to the hospital’s main telephone number and route them appropriately throughout the organization. The operator will also provide emergency notification via the paging system or overhead speaker system as necessary.
Job Responsibilities
Operate a telecommunications console along with various peripheral pieces of communications equipment including a personal computer. Answer all calls politely and in a timely manner. Connect callers to the desired location.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Observe departmental and hospital policies concerning attendance, professional conduct, and appearance. Attend in‑services.
Respond to requests for patient information and assist with requests for patient information/location. Assist at the Information Desk to access medical staff/patient contact information.
Respond immediately to all emergency calls (patient codes, life safety, alarms, etc.) and urgently communicate the situation to appropriate parties both within and outside the hospital. Initiate appropriate response for the specific situation, follow emergency policies and procedures, and document action as required.
Provide direction to visitors and provide volunteers with support as needed.
Handle requests to page and locate hospital staff. Operate the paging console to initiate staff pages as required, maintain a daily on‑call list for services, identify phone pager numbers as requested, and page as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED.
1–2 years experience as a receptionist or customer service in a high‑pace environment.
Good communication (both oral and written), organization, detail orientation, multi‑tasking, and customer service skills.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Ability to respond to emergency situations.
Preferred Qualifications
1–2 years experience in hospital switchboard systems and emergency procedures.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
