Apprentice Teacher - Elementary (Immediate & 26-27 SY)

Position Overview
KIPP Capital Region (KIPP Albany Public Schools) is a national network of high‑performing charter schools in Albany and Troy, NY, serving 2,500 students across seven schools. The Apprentice Teacher — Elementary (Immediate & 26‑27 SY, Finance) will work closely with a Lead Teacher, serve as a full staff member, and take on progressive teaching responsibilities over the academic year. Duties and Responsibilities
Support the Lead Teacher with tutoring, grading, and individual or small‑group instruction. Observe instructional practices to improve techniques and classroom management. Provide supervision of students during class, breaks, meals, and transitions to maintain a safe environment. Assist in classroom management and support the main office team, enrichment classes, student events, and mentoring partnerships. Participate in events outside regular school hours (e.g., family nights, performances, field trips, conferences). Collaborate with the grade‑level team to plan and execute a rigorous, standards‑aligned curriculum and assess student progress. Periodically plan and deliver instruction, gradually taking on greater responsibility. Provide daily feedback on mastery in character and academics and plan for individual learning needs. Support students with one‑on‑one and small‑group tutoring and intervention. Meet regularly with a coach and school leadership to apply feedback on lessons. Assist with instruction, assessments, grading, and other classroom responsibilities. Problem‑solve and make timely decisions with a solution‑focused approach. Cultivate a collaborative relationship with the Lead Teacher. Manage and reduce classroom risk. Serve as an advisor to a small student group and co‑lead advisory/homeroom sessions. Supervise students during transitions, breakfast, lunch, and after‑school. Support mastery of academic standards with the Lead Teacher. Help collect and analyze data to inform instruction. Perform clerical duties that advance student learning. Maintain strong communication with parents and be available for open houses and conferences. Engage in professional development, mentorship, and coaching sessions. Perform duties expected of classroom teachers, including: implement curricula, design assessments, use data to refine instruction, support curriculum development, manage behavior, and maintain parent communication. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (required). Valid NYS teaching licensure or willingness to pursue state certification (required). Experience as a school educator, preferably in a charter or public school environment. Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred. Ability to work a flexible schedule outside regular business hours. Aptitude for creating an inclusive environment that honors diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Physical Requirements
Prolonged sitting at a desk and computer use. Access to and navigation of all school areas. Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment. Fluent reading, writing, and speaking in English. Ability to stand, walk, sit, use fingers to type, handle tool controls, reach, climb stairs, balance; occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.
