Congocamp
About the role
Lifeguards keep our campers safe and confident in and around the water. You’ll maintain vigilant surveillance, enforce pool rules, respond to emergencies, and collaborate with Counselors to run smooth, fun, and inclusive swim times—helping every camper feel supported at the pool.
Responsibilities
Maintain active, vigilant surveillance and enforce safety rules to prevent injuries and incidents.
Perform rescues, provide first aid/CPR/AED, and activate the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) as needed.
Lead camper swim checks and support group management during lessons and free swim.
Set up and break down daily aquatics equipment; inspect and maintain rescue gear and first-aid supplies.
Monitor environmental and facility conditions; promptly report hazards, maintenance issues, or sanitation concerns.
Accurately complete incident/accident reports and follow communication protocols with camp leadership.
Collaborate with group counselors to support transitions, behavior expectations, and inclusive participation.
Meet or exceed ACA practices and Virginia child day program licensing standards, and follow local pool regulations.
Maintain professionalism and confidentiality; be punctual, prepared, and flexible; perform other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or designee.
Preferred Qualifications
Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding with Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED and First Aid (or able to obtain before the season and maintain through employment).
Strong scanning, prevention, and rescue skills; calm, decisive responder under pressure.
Experience working with children and collaborating with youth program staff.
Clear, professional communicator; team‑oriented and coachable.
Comfortable indoors/outdoors for extended periods; able to meet the physical demands of lifeguarding.
Eligibility Typically, 16+ by the first day of employment and able to pass required background/screening checks per Virginia regulations.
