About This Role The Painter at Textron Systems will be responsible for surface preparation, applying protective and/or decorative prime, finish paint coatings, and spall liners with a high focus on quality. The Senior Painter will work independently on complex paint jobs and surface preparation and assist junior painters with guidance.
Responsibilities
Ability to determine areas of parts, assemblies, equipment and/or products to be painted, type and color of paint or other material to apply in accordance with prints, sketches, written/verbal instructions, procedures, and military/ commercial specifications
Able to set up, adjust and operate paint spraying equipment and drying ovens maintaining thickness of coating in conformance with specifications
Perform spray booth painting on a large variety of assemblies typically in small batch lots.
Perform spall liner installation to include adhesive mixing and preparation
In addition to mixing and applying various types of primers and paints the candidate will also be responsible for cleaning and maintaining all paint equipment, spray booth, air systems, and rail systems
Interact with internal customers and external vendors regarding processes and products.
Expected to practice FOD control (clean as you go)
Ability to follow OSHA and Textron Systems' safety rules and regulations regarding protective personal equipment and performance of work tasks
Other duties as directed by Management to support Textron Systems’ overall goals and objectives
Physical Requirements
Ability to pass a painter's physical/respirator test
Ability to stoop, bend and kneel, squat, kneel and pull
Extended periods of kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping
Carry and lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs)
Standing, sitting and walking
Performing repetitive motions
Visual acuity for color matching
Work Environment
Exposure to paint, fumes and particles
Dirt / Dust
Chemicals / Toxins
Varying heat / cold / humidity
Intermittent noise
Qualifications
Strong communication skills for interacting with internal customers and external vendors.
Knowledge of paints, adhesives, and surface preparation materials and characteristics.
Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, drawings/specifications.
Shop math including ability to perform weight/volume ratios.
Ability to use basic linear measuring tools.
Ability to operate paint equipment such as Pressure Pot and HVLP spray guns.
Ability to prioritize and independently complete assigned tasks.
Ability to operate a computer for recording jobs and timecard inputs.
The ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance is required.
Education and Experience
Three years’ experience with commercial/industrial paint/coating environment
High school diploma or equivalent
Blast booth experience a plus
