Overview The general role of a Journeyman Electrician is to work with Electricians and the Electrical Foreman to install, maintain, and repair electrical components at customer locations. This position leads and mentors entry‑level electricians such as Electrical Apprentices. The role involves low and high voltage applications across various industries including Construction, Manufacturing, Power Plants, Commercial, Aggregate, Oil and Gas, Coal, and Wind Energy. Travel, overnight stays, and extended hours may be required.
Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in industrial facilities
Install complex components such as motor control centers, transformers, instrumentation, switch gears, PLC controls, etc.
Run conduit and cable trays to electrical devices
Pull wire to termination boxes, panels, and other controllers
Load and unload tools, materials, equipment
Read and follow electrical code, manuals, wiring diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and other specifications
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical issues independently with minimal direction
Drive ground rods and install grounding grids
Utilize hand tools, power tools, and electrical equipment
Assess jobs to determine material, tool, and equipment needs
Coordinate with customers to ensure successful job completion
Lead smaller jobs as required
Assist with paperwork and documentation for accurate record keeping
Lead and mentor entry‑level electricians such as Electrical Apprentices
Qualifications
3+ years of electrical experience or equivalent education
Experience in industrial electrical preferred
Valid Driver’s License required
Possess a Journeyman License (WV preferred) and must obtain a WV Journeyman License within 6 months from hire
Basic knowledge of NEC, electrical theory, and AC/DC circuits
Ability to use tools and diagnostic devices relevant to the trade
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, circuitry, and schematics
Dependable, trustworthy, with a positive and productive attitude
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Collaboration and respectful interaction with co‑workers and customers
Accurate mathematical calculations and measurements
Aptitude for leadership and customer service
Working Conditions
Sit, talk, hear, read, and write
Walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
Kneel, stoop, bend, squat, and climb a ladder
Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Work at heights up to 60 ft for extended periods
Work in confined spaces
Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
Perform duties on‑site and underground at industrial locations
Additional Eligibility Qualifications This position requires completion of a thorough background and pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening. Employees are required to participate in random, post‑accident, and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing as requested.
