Position Overview Mid-level experience in water quality, supply and wastewater collection is required. The role involves in-depth knowledge of the principles and practices of potable water supply, quality, and collections systems. Under the direction of the Water Quality and Supply Administrator, the operator inspects, operates, and maintains water and wastewater systems.

Summary of Job Duties

Estimates water demands to ensure adequate water supply and maintain sufficient water levels in storage; monitors system trends and makes appropriate system adjustments.

Coordinates system operations with outside agencies to ensure proper system performance.

Inspects, monitors, records and operates well fields, pumping stations, lift stations, water tanks, valve actuators, and reservoirs; performs minor repairs; inspects and operates chemical feeders; weighs and/or measures chemicals, records chemical usage; maintains chemical inventory; conducts routine sampling and testing; ensures accuracy of instrumentation by performing calibration and accuracy tests.

Assists and follows guidance from the Water Supply Lead Operator to ensure operational success and collaborates with other team members for continuous 24

hour/7

day coverage.

Uses CMMS to record, research data, generate, track, and update service requests and work orders for equipment, facilities, and daily operations; interacts with other divisions and entities regarding repairs or system operation.

Investigates and determines sources of system/mechanical problems and water‑quality problems indicated by lab testing results; recommends solutions.

Sets up, maintains, and monitors emergency and non‑emergency water supply equipment; attends and participates in emergency preparedness exercises; performs daily vehicle inspections and housekeeping as needed.

Assists in compiling operation and laboratory reports; prepares and signs reports for the Ohio EPA; reports on equipment performance, daily operational logs, water, and chemical usage; serves as an Ohio EPA Operator of Record when requested.

Receives and responds to customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints; monitors radio for internal communications; dispatches work crews for emergency repairs; submits utility locate requests and reviews locate status; coordinates work with external authorities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Equivalent to a high school diploma.

At least two (2) years of experience in water or wastewater system operations.

Must have an Ohio Class I certification in one of the following areas per OEPA requirements: Water distribution, Wastewater collection, Water supply, or Wastewater works.

Driving Requirement Must maintain a current, valid State of Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Training and Development Must sit for the next available Ohio Class II Water Distribution or Class II Water Supply exam following fulfillment of Ohio EPA minimum requirements and must secure certification within two (2) years of meeting minimum time qualifications. Must complete the basic Water Treatment and/or Pump Course within two (2) years of hire date (pass/fail).

Location & Salary Dayton, OH – Salary: $80,000.00‑$90,000.00.
