ECE Teachers Aide III – Salvation Army ARC
Base pay range: $15.00/hr – $15.25/hr
Position Summary The Kroc Keiki Learning Center Teacher's Aide works under a supervising teacher and collaborates with other staff to provide a well‑balanced, developmentally appropriate curriculum that enhances all aspects of a child's development, including health, safety, education, spiritual, and psychological wellness.
The aide demonstrates a deep commitment to the mission of The Salvation Army, represented in professional conduct and community interactions.
Minimum Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Four years of experience working with children ages 2‑5
Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be accepted.
Preferences
Coursework or training in Early Childhood Education or Child Development
Prior experience supervising children in daycare or preschool environments
Essential Functions
Implement activities with supervising teachers to meet children’s physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and social needs.
Ensure equipment and the facility are clean, well‑maintained, and safe; assist in daily inspections.
Prepare the classroom at the beginning of the day and help with cleanup/setting up for the next day.
Assist in establishing routines and providing positive guidance.
Support activities that introduce math, literacy, and other academic and culturally appropriate concepts.
Help implement daily lesson/activity plans integrating Bible thematic units with various experiences.
Supervise children at all times, adhering to Salvation Army procedures for Protecting the Mission.
Create a welcoming climate for children and parents during drop‑off and pick‑up.
Communicate clearly and effectively, implementing positive discipline when required.
Observe children and record progress notes.
Promote team spirit and cooperation among staff, volunteers, and parents.
Assist with snack and meal preparation, distribution, and clean‑up.
Teach proper eating habits and personal hygiene, serving meals and snacks per nutritional guidelines.
Know emergency procedures.
Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
Maintain the Code of Ethics policy established for the Kroc Center Hawaii.
Attend staff and administrative meetings.
Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Mental Demands Managing multiple child‑related situations, handling accidents or emergencies, maintaining composure, and working with limited supervision in a team environment are required. The role demands self‑motivation, prioritization, and the ability to handle tasks without compromising quality.
Physical Demands The position may involve lifting and carrying children and equipment, spending time on the floor or child‑sized furniture, cleaning and maintaining facilities, and being in contact with children who may be ill. Typical duties include standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching, crawling, and moving equipment up to 25+ pounds.
Communication Demands Requires speaking with co‑workers, clients, vendors, and the public, writing and responding to different forms of written communication, giving and receiving instructions, and utilizing current technologies.
Equipment Needs Activity mats, tables, classroom chairs, blocks, carts, playground equipment, arts & crafts supplies, books, storage units, diaper changing tables, easels, plus general office equipment such as computers, printers, scanners, and telephones.
Certificates & Licenses
Current First Aid and Child CPR cards (obtained within 6 months of hire date)
Registry Card from Hawaii Careers with Young Children
TB Test Clearance Card (current within 12 months before beginning child care)
Clearances Required criminal history check and Child Abuse Index; FBI and Department of Justice fingerprint clearance. Criminal convictions will be evaluated on a case‑by‑case basis.
