Safety Hazmat Technician
Starting salary:
$75,000.00 - $85,000.00
Shift:
2nd Shift, Full-Time, Monday-Friday 4:00 PM to 2:00 AM
Vacation:
1 week after 90 days of employment
Location:
Ypsilanti, MI service center office
Reporting to the Director of Safety, the Hazmat Technician is responsible for emergency response, hazardous and non-hazardous materials clean‑up, site remediation, equipment decontamination, hazardous materials handling, and related duties.
Requirements
40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification required
Wear proper PPE as required by OSHA and industry standards
Work effectively and communicate with team members and other departments
Inform management of issues that arise on jobs in a timely manner
Update job notes daily
Physically fit; able to lift 75 lbs.
Able to thrive in a high-pressure, fast-paced, team-supported environment
Lead safety in all aspects of emergency response, including following R+L procedures, properly containerizing waste/re‑use products, completing safety documentation, and upholding R+L’s high level of safety
Experience operating tools applicable to emergency response activities
Set up and participate in live training events to ensure the competency of personnel
Audit incoming/outgoing hazardous materials shipments for compliance
Ability and willingness to coach co‑workers on unsafe behaviors observed
Willing to participate in specialized scheduled projects as required
Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
Exceptional interpersonal, customer service, and problem‑solving skills
Proven ability to work in a confidential capacity
Ability to handle multiple tasks while being detail oriented
