Team Sports Leader (Volleyball Official) The Team Sports Leader performs a variety of tasks that support the youth and adult sports leagues offered by the City of Pocatello. Responsibilities include keeping score manually or electronically for basketball, volleyball, and softball games, assisting with setup and takedown of facilities, organizing the scorekeeping area, and monitoring activities during events. The Leader provides guidance and direction to participants and attendees to ensure a safe and positive experience. This position may require travel to surrounding communities to score or time keep. Applicants must be 16 years of age or older and have passed a background check.

Work hours: days, evenings, and weekends as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Act as the referee or scorekeeper for Softball, Basketball, or Volleyball games.

Keeps time for games/matches using an electronic scoreboard.

Records team rosters and keeps a clean and accurate account of the game/match.

Documents any accidents or incidents that may occur during the game/match.

Clears trash from the scorekeeper/timer area before leaving the gym/field.

Submits daily scores to the Team Sports Office in a timely manner.

Tracks timeouts and communicates with game officials when time expires.

Records the amount of time each player plays during the game, as prescribed in the rules.

Ensures all participants and spectators have a safe, friendly, and positive game experience.

Responsible for the care, oversight, and safety of the assigned gymnasium facility.

Provides excellent customer service to maintain a safe, positive, and participant-friendly environment.

Locates the next game coaches, assists scorekeepers, and ensures coaches fill out their scorebooks 15 minutes prior to game start.

Oversees assigned City and School District building areas, including hallway inspections, bathroom inspections, and sweeping/mopping of gym floors as needed.

Communicates any issues, concerns, or accidents immediately to the Team Sports Program Manager.

Acceptable Experience, Training, Licenses and/or Certifications

Applicant must be 16 years of age or older.

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Knowledge of rules and regulations of basketball, volleyball, and/or softball.

Experience participating in the named sports preferred.

CPR and/or Basic First Aid Certification preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position may be considered.

Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, climbing ladders, working at heights, and in confined spaces. Hand/finger dexterity required for handling materials, manipulating tools, operating a computer, and reaching with hands and arms. Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds with assistance. Visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform essential functions and interact with the public required. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
