Qualifications
Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
Has previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport (Major sports).
The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
At the same time, the head coach must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.
Reports To The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
Supervises The head coach advises, coordinates, and supports a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches, in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principals.
Job Goal To instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for individual and team success. At the same time, the coach must model behaviors that promote socially acceptable character development, self‑discipline, self‑confidence, and pride in accomplishment. Continuous learning through coaching clinics, observation, and consultation is expected.

The success of athletic programs strongly influences the community’s image of the school system. Public exposure creates significant responsibility and parental pressure for winning performance; however, this should not override the objectives of sportsmanship and mental health.
The position includes unusual aspects such as extended hours, injury risk, and due‑process considerations.

Duties And Responsibilities
Has thorough knowledge of all athletic policies approved by the Bayfield Schools’ Board of Education and is responsible for their implementation throughout the sports program.
Has knowledge of existing system, state, and league regulations; implements them consistently and interprets them for staff.
Understands the proper administrative line of command and refers all requests or grievances through appropriate channels; is aware of all public/staff/departmental meetings requiring attendance.
Staff Responsibilities
Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills, and techniques to be taught by staff; designs conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to ensure program awareness.
Trains and informs staff, encouraging professional growth by promoting clinic attendance in accordance with local policy.
Delegates specific duties, supervises implementation, and at season's end analyzes staff effectiveness and evaluates all assistants.
Maintains discipline, adjusts grievances, and works to increase morale and cooperation.
Performs other duties assigned by the athletic director or principal.
Administrative Duties
Assists the athletic director with scheduling, transportation, and requirements for tournaments and special sport events.
Assists in preparing scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times, coordinating with maintenance and school employees.
Provides documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent, and eligibility.
Provides safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
Advises the athletic director and recommends policy, method, or procedural changes.
Student Responsibilities
Serves as a mentor to each athlete, promoting the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
Gives constant attention to a student athlete’s grades and conduct.
Provides assistance, guidance, and safeguards for each participant during practices, games, and travel.
Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete considered a participant.
Initiates programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention, and emergencies.
Completes paperwork on all disabling athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to the athletic office within 24 hours.
Directs student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
Determines discipline, delineates procedures concerning due process when enforcing discipline, and contacts parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible.
Assists athletes in their college or advanced educational selection.
Finance And Equipment
Participates in budgeting with the athletic director, establishing requirements for the next season and recommending equipment guidelines regarding type, style, color, or technical specifications.
Is responsible for operating within budget appropriations.
Is accountable for all equipment and collects costs for any lost or unreturned items.
Arranges for issuing, storing, and reconditioning of equipment and submits annual inventory and current records.
Properly marks and identifies all equipment before issuing or storing.
Monitors equipment rooms and coaches’ offices, authorizing who may enter, issue, or requisition equipment.
Permits athletes to access only authorized areas of the building at appropriate times.
Examines locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking general cleanliness of the facility; responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of specific sport equipment.
Secures all doors, lights, windows, and locks before leaving if custodians are not on duty.
Instills respect for equipment and school property, its care, and proper use.
Public Relations
Organizes parents, coaches, players, and guests for preseason meetings.
Promotes the sport within the school by recruiting athletes who are not in another sports program and promotes the sport outside the school through news media, little league programs, or other feasible means.
Responsible for the quality, effectiveness, and validity of any oral or written release to local media.
Maintains good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans.
Provides information to news media concerning schedules, tournaments, and results.
Salary Based on years coaching, the range per contract year is $3,054 – $3,768.
