Adjunct Pool Surgical Technology Instructor

Muskegon Community College, an associate degree-granting institution of higher education, is a center for lifelong learning that provides individuals with the opportunity to attain their educational goals by offering programs that respond to individual, community, and global needs. We are seeking qualified candidates for Adjunct Instructors. General Description

The instructional staff is responsible for directing, evaluating, and reporting student progress towards programmatic course objectives and for the periodic review and updating of course material. The instructor will teach assigned classes that prepare surgical technology students for appropriate certification and must possess the ability to work with all students. Required Qualifications

Associate degree in surgical technology (preferred). Graduate of an accredited surgical technology education program. Credential in surgical technology through a national certification program accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Minimum two years of experience in the operating room scrub role or as a surgical technology instructor within the past five years. Essential Functions

Responsible for directing, evaluating, and reporting student progress toward course objectives and for the periodic review and updating of course material. Teach students how to prepare an operating room, provide pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative patient care, and assist a surgeon during surgery or another medical procedure. Demonstrate appropriate course and classroom management. Provide academic guidance, assist students in developing personal, academic, and professional plans, and engage in student retention and graduation efforts. Participate in activities that develop teaching performance, instructional development, knowledge of subject matter, and/or teaching or subject area qualifications in keeping with the College's mission and institutional goals. Participate in professional development activities to maintain current certification as well as educational requirements. Develop good working relationships with personnel in various clinical agencies in the assigned geographic area. Perform other duties assigned by the Program Director. Knowledge and Practical Skills

Ensure qualified instructors are designated for all didactic, laboratory, and clinical instruction, providing supervision and timely assessments of student progress. Demonstrate ability to work with all populations. Demonstrate time management and detail-oriented skills. Computer-based skills (software, analytical, and report writing). Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet frequent deadlines. Ability to develop a professional rapport with a variety of campus constituents. Ability to complete projects without continued direct supervision. Demonstrate fairness, consistency, and compassion in all matters, and avoid ineffectual behavior. Specialized Technology Skills

Computer skills, excellent spelling and grammar, and courteous, tactful, concise communication. Experience using multiple approaches to teaching and learning, including technology, service learning, contextualized instruction, or other research-based and innovative approaches that support increased student success.
