The role of School Counselor leads the campus family engagement vision, social emotional learning program, and coordination of mental health and counseling supports for all scholars on the campus. Key Tenets Our key tenets of family engagement, social emotional learning, and student social emotional supports are implemented through the role of the School Counselor to ensure all staff are building authentic relationships with students and families. Data maintenance and analysis is an integral component of effective school-based intervention implementation. SSAs own the validity and accuracy of their goals to drive campus strategies and tactics. Family engagement and student success is the job of all campus team members. The School Counselor will direct and hold all campus team members accountable to fulfill their role. When the work is led effectively, the entire school staff is clear on their roles in supporting students and families, has the data needed to drive action, is inspired, and is supported to engage with students and parents in a meaningful way which would result in meeting the goal for all students to have the academic and social skills they need to achieve their goal of going to and through college. Through this work, School Counselors ensure our schools are a place where students feel safe physically and emotionally safe and therefore can learn, grow, and succeed in and outside of the classroom. Compensation
Salary range: $68,886 - $79,908, commensurate with relevant experience and internal equity. Eligible for a performance bonus based on team performance and goal attainment. Other Benefits

Tuition Reimbursement: Up to 50% of tuition paid toward a qualifying degree program, up to $5,250 per year subject to manager discretion. Employer‑Paid Mental/Behavioral Health: 5 face‑to‑face counseling sessions within a year, unlimited 24/7 telephonic counseling, and other work‑life services at no cost. IDEA may offer a relocation allowance to defray the cost of moving for this role, if applicable. Qualifications Education: Master’s degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or related field. Experience: Previous experience in a school or school setting. License or Certification: Valid TX School Counselor certification or counseling licensure (LMSW, LCSW, LCSW‑S, LPC‑A, LPC, LMFT‑A, LMFT) required. Knowledge and Skills Proven track record of success. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage student behavior. Belief in and alignment with IDEA’s mission and values is non‑negotiable. Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment. What You’ll Do – Accountabilities
90% Student Persistence
Lead execution of school vision for retaining all students by directing and managing stakeholders in family engagement and student persistence. Provide individual/group counseling for at‑risk students and refer students requiring specialized services to campus‑based Licensed Mental Health Provider and/or outside agencies. Lead planning and execution of student and family engagement events aligned to school culture and community needs. Lead BOY Professional Development for entire campus to clarify staff roles in family engagement. Manage campus overall student persistence data ensuring 100% data accuracy and reporting in partnership with the PEIMS team. Notify stakeholders of persistence data and actionable trends. Partner with grade level teams to coordinate interventions for at‑risk students. Lead parent conversations and problem‑solve to meet student and family needs. Coach and develop teachers to work with all students and families. Maintain knowledge of community agencies as resources. Direct implementation of state‑mandated guidance lessons. Provide support through training, coaching, and teacher development. Serve on crisis response team ensuring student needs are met. Conduct individual and group check‑ins and advising meetings. Lead family communications platforms: Remind, Smore, Facebook. Administer two parent surveys (Spring and Fall) and analyze data to respond strategically. Administer one student survey in Spring to gauge experience. 90% New Student Persistence
Partner with Enrollment Specialist and APO to ensure 100% of new students and families receive high‑quality onboarding starting day 1. Direct and manage campus team members in family engagement to retain new students yearly. Plan and execute new parent events for welcome and integration. Lead parent conversations to address concerns of newest families. Partner with APO to complete onboarding and operational support. Own campus new student persistence data accuracy and reporting. Conduct individual and group check‑ins and advising sessions with new students to build community. 97.5% Average Daily Attendance
Partner with Operations team to increase and ensure all students are in school on time. Activate when a student is absent 7+ times to plan interventions. Identify barriers to attendance and connect families with resources. Conduct home visits for students absent 7+ times. Own management of student placed on Mission List for chronic absenteeism. 90% of Assigned Teachers Use MTW Curriculum with Fidelity
Lead teacher and campus training on Move This World curriculum. Identify best practices to invest in a culture of SEL integration. Conduct regular observations of MTW blocks, providing feedback monthly. Track curriculum progress and send weekly PTG MTW update. Conduct BOY and EOY assessment on SEL competencies, school climate, and sense of belonging. Campus Earns an “A” on School Counselor Report Card
Collaborate with stakeholders to meet district expectations for family engagement and SEL priorities. Facilitate four Family Engagement Events (one per quarter). Meet parent and student completion expectations in Fall and Spring survey administrations. Facilitate bullying prevention month and mental health awareness month activities. Ensure campus crisis team meets regularly and submits crisis data on time. Values and Characteristics
