Position:

Youth Counselor Technician (S) – Grade NC04, Division: 70000075 Dept of Public Safety. The position is full‑time (40 hours per week) and requires shift work (day, 7AM–7PM; night, 7PM–7AM) with rotating weekend and holiday shifts. Eligibility for a 10% shift premium for 2nd or 3rd shift and a $3,000 sign‑on bonus are offered.

Key Responsibilities:

Directly monitor and supervise juveniles housed, at school, and during all daily activities in Youth Development and Youth Detention Centers.

Engage with court‑ordered youth, providing direct supervision, personal and physical contact, and support.

Maintain a secure environment, ensure compliance with cleanliness and sanitation standards, and protect juveniles against danger.

Complete daily records documenting safety violations, security breaches, activity briefings, crisis interventions, behavioral incidents, and progress updates; provide feedback to the treatment team.

Collaborate with on‑site treatment teams and support teams to enhance juvenile outcomes.

Trainee Program (Youth Counselor Technician Trainee):

Requires only a high school diploma/GED and age ≥20.

Program duration 6–24 months with progressive training and step‑progression pay ranging from $34,000 up to $37,621.

Successful trainees are eligible for full‑time permanent positions and future salary increases.

Qualifications:

Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; or high school diploma/GED with two years of related human services experience.

Minimum 20 years of age, U.S. citizenship, valid driver’s license, and ability to obtain required certifications (Juvenile Justice Officer Basic Training, physical, mental health, drug screening, background checks, etc.).

Physical ability to restrain juveniles, defend self, and meet job demands.

Step Pay Plan:

Step 0 – $37,621

Step 1 – $40,253

Step 2 – $42,670

Step 3 – $44,803

Step 4 – $46,594

Step 5 – $47,993

Step 6 – $48,953
