Associate Pastor – Grace Baptist Church, Grand Forks, ND
Grace Baptist Church is seeking an Associate Pastor to share in God's purpose, vision, and mission. The role will support the Lead Pastor and focus on leading the Youth Ministry (Middle School and High School) and Young Adult Ministry (Post‑High School). The position is full‑time.
The Big Picture Grace Baptist Church’s purpose is to glorify God, its vision is to be a community of true disciples, and its mission is to advance the kingdom of God. The Associate Pastor will provide spiritual leadership and oversight for the church’s ministries, working closely with the Lead Pastor, Board of Elders, and ministry leaders.
Key Responsibilities
Provide spiritual leadership to the church’s ministries through biblically sound preaching, discipleship, and exemplifying godly character;
Preach and teach God’s Word for individual and corporate spiritual growth and maturity in Christ;
Demonstrate competency and excellence in the study of Scripture and equip people to be disciples;
Provide primary oversight of the Youth Ministry and Young Adult Ministry. Assist the Lead Pastor in evaluating overall ministries and advancing opportunities for staff and lay leadership;
Develop and maintain programs that reach the unsaved and equip the church body to use their spiritual gifts;
Oversee all youth and young adult activities, communications, and coordination of ministries;
Guide leadership training and ensure its continuity;
Maintain a positive, respectful relationship with staff and lay leaders and be accessible for prayer;
Serve as an executive member of all boards and committees, providing guidance on budget, staff recruitment, policy, and fiscal matters;
Meet regularly with the Board of Elders, Leadership Advisory Council, and other boards as invited.
Pastoral Duties in Leading the Youth and Young Adult Ministry
Equip ministries with strong Biblical teaching and challenge the church to fulfill its purpose;
Model personal evangelism and equip students and young adults to be obedient to the Great Commission;
Work with the Lead Pastor to give direction ensuring the Great Commission is carried out locally and beyond.
Youth Ministry:
Primary teacher for Sunday School (morning) and Youth Group (Wednesday evening);
Recruit, equip, and shepherd adult volunteers, ensuring proper vetting with established background‑check policies;
Plan and lead youth events, retreats, and mission trips;
Form connections with local schools, youth organizations, and ministries.
Young Adult Ministry:
Provide oversight and guidance to the leadership team;
Equip and disciple young adult ministry leaders;
Assist the leadership team in planning monthly gatherings;
Form connections with local colleges and young adult ministries;
Organize Sunday morning transportation for university students.
Additional Duties
Preach 3‑5 times a year in the Lead Pastor’s absence;
Participate in the Sunday AM worship service as requested;
Attend staff meetings and contribute to the overall ministry development;
Be available for spiritual support during hospital visits and family crises;
Counsel young adults, students, and others – refer to professional counselors if needed;
Invest in personal growth: study God's Word, pray, nurture marital/family relationships, attend conferences, maintain positive ministry relationships;
Perform other duties assigned by the Lead Pastor and Elders.
Accountability
Directly report to the Lead Pastor;
Accountable to the Elders, congregation governance, and Jesus Christ.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Meet pastoral qualifications as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1‑7;
Demonstrated testimony, faith in Jesus Christ, mature Christian character, and agreement with the Grace Baptist Church Statement of Faith;
Master of Divinity, Master of Theology, Theological Studies, or an equivalent accredited degree;
Two years of ministry experience;
Willingness to work on‑site except when duties require otherwise.
