The YCS Educational Division serves students, grades K–8, with diverse behavioral issues at the YCS George Washington School in Bergen County. The academic environment is highly task-oriented. Class sizes are small and individualized attention ensures the success needed to develop healthy self-esteem. Each student has unique capabilities that can be developed when given the proper setting. Students are encouraged to develop their abilities in gym, art, creative writing and music instruction. The special education program that YCS offers in New Jersey could easily serve as a model for all education.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and deliver engaging, differentiated art lessons that accommodate learning styles and needs of students with various disabilities, including cognitive, emotional, and physical challenges.
Collaborate with special education teachers, therapists, and support staff to create individualized education plans (IEPs) that incorporate art as a therapeutic and educational tool.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where all students feel valued and encouraged to express themselves creatively.
Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and adjust instructional strategies to meet evolving needs.
Stay current with best practices in special education and art instruction, and participate in professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Special Education, or a related field.
Valid State teaching certification in Art Education and/or Special Education.
Experience working with students with disabilities, preferably in an art education setting.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
