The Early Head Start Teacher develops and implements individual and group educational plans for infants and toddlers, designed to promote social-emotional, physical, and cognitive growth appropriate to their development. In each Early Head Start classroom, two Early Head Start Teachers lead child development activities with support from Program Aides and Volunteers. In collaboration with a co-Teacher, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the classroom, ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations, build strong partnerships with families, and maintain high program quality. You will report to the Center Director or Manager of Education & Inclusion. As a frontline representative of Save the Children, you will ensure the safety and security of children and families in your care, upholding the agency’s values of Accountability, Ambition, Collaboration, Creativity and Integrity. What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Collaborate with a co-Teacher to develop and implement individualized and group lesson plans and activities that promote all developmental areas and prepare children for preschool. Guide and facilitate daily classroom activities and, when appropriate, field trips. Set up equipment and materials to create a safe, developmentally appropriate learning environment. Provide responsive caregiving to support relational learning and include individualized and small group activities within a flexible schedule. Plan and conduct conferences (minimum 2) and home visits (minimum 2) to keep parents informed about their child’s progress, routines, activities, and behavior. Maintain accurate records on paper and in designated online systems; protect confidentiality of children and families. Plan, conduct, and document observations, assessments and screenings; maintain an ongoing portfolio for each child with weekly observations and work samples. Collaborate with Program Aides and Volunteers to develop their skills in planning and carrying out classroom activities. Ensure active supervision to protect children’s safety; use the playground as an extension of the classroom and keep it safe. Assist children during meals to model social and self-help skills and healthy eating practices. Meet the physical needs of children, supporting health and personal routines (resting, brushing teeth, diapering, toilet habits). Engage families in their child’s education and provide opportunities for classroom involvement and home activities. Create and maintain an annual inventory of classroom equipment and supplies. Work with the Manager of Education & Inclusion to develop and document professional development plans; engage in ongoing professional development to increase qualifications. Keep the classroom clean and organized and document in-kind donations as applicable. May require staying until all children are picked up by a guardian, as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications

Minimum of an associate degree in child development, early childhood education or a related degree with early childhood coursework equivalent to a major related to early childhood education, with experience teaching preschool-age children. Professional proficiency in spoken and written English. Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with individuals and teams at all levels to provide high-quality services to children and families. Interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with strong problem-solving and time-management abilities. Ability to follow established directions and take initiative; knowledge of the purpose of the Head Start/Early Head Start program. Proven ability to relate sensitively to children and to maintain confidentiality of information. Must participate in professional development training including basic first aid and pediatric CPR certification as required by state licensing and HSPPS. Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages used by children and families) is preferred. In North Carolina, Birth-Kindergarten (B-K) Licensure is preferred. Additional Qualifications

Physical requirements: ability to perform medium to heavy physical work, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, and up to 20 pounds frequently; includes routine activities such as sitting, crawling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, keyboarding and computer use. Clear pre-employment background checks and health requirements as required by state regulations and post-offer policies. Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle if required by the role.
