The Bellefonte Area School District is seeking a Special Education Paraeducator to support students with academic, behavioral, and social skill development under the direction of classroom teachers. This vital role assists students in both special education and general education settings, providing individualized support, fostering independence, and collaborating with educators to promote student success. Key Responsibilities
Respect the role of teacher(s) as supervisor. Collaborate with supervisors and special education teachers to enhance student learning. Provide clerical and supportive duties, keeping records as needed. Participate in training and meetings to support student achievement in skill deficit areas. Use patience and courtesy with students, staff, and parents/guardians. Help students improve self‑confidence and motivation. Conduct and follow schedules for whole group, small group, and individual lessons, including training for behavior management, social‑emotional development, academic skill areas, and functional skills. Implement positive behavior intervention plans and behavior management techniques. Provide instruction in skill deficit areas such as academic, behavioral, social, and daily living skills. Offer re‑teaching, pre‑teaching, and tutorial support under teacher direction. Maintain classroom supplies and assist in planning and preparing supports for students. Carry out activities directed by related service providers such as occupational therapists, physical therapists, vision teachers, and speech and language pathologists. Administer positive reinforcement strategies and techniques. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Maintain complete confidentiality of all student information. Provide a safe learning atmosphere for students. Enforce all school regulations and classroom rules with students. Assist with extra‑curricular and community‑based instruction, including transportation of students and support for job shadowing experiences. Supervise and/or assist students with self‑care activities (toileting, washing, dressing, feeding, etc.). Help with feeding and food preparation as needed. Become knowledgeable about assistive technology and adaptive equipment. Perform other duties as assigned by teachers or administrators. Education Requirements
Minimum: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree or 48 college credits Experience Requirements
Minimum: Six months of experience working with students Preferred: Previous role working with students in public education Certifications & Licenses
Required: Completion of Highly Qualified Paraprofessional Training and Exam Physical Demands
The demands described include standing, sitting, talking, hearing, bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting up to 40 lbs. Ability to stand or walk 50% of the workday. Vision and hearing requirements detailed in job description. Application Requirements
Current employment clearances dated within the past five years: Act 34 – Criminal History, Act 114 – FBI Fingerprint, Act 151 – PA Child Abuse. Copies of degree certificates and transcripts.
