Driver Trainee – SYGMA – San Antonio
Assist the driver in unloading product at customer locations according to customer invoices, Preferred Work Methods, and company policies.
Primary Duties
Unload product according to customer specifications and SYGMA delivery procedures at customer locations.
Develop and establish good relationships with customers by providing excellent, courteous service.
Learn route on the current bid.
Assist in all aspects of route paperwork.
Work safely by following SYGMA’s Preferred Work Methods.
Other duties as assigned by Management.
Attend CDL School when scheduled.
Additional Duties That May Be Assigned
Assist the driver in pre‑trip and coupling of equipment to ensure the vehicle is safe to operate and that tandem locks meet weight regulations.
Provide assistance in routing with map reading and giving directions on route, including navigating low clearances.
Assist with delivery set‑up at the customer location, directing the driver to ensure safe and proper configuration of all trailer compartments.
Assist driver in backing situations by exiting the truck, watching for hazards, and communicating via hand or verbal signals.
Education & Experience
High school diploma/GED or equivalent work experience; prior food distribution and frozen food handling preferred. Must read and write clearly.
Commercial Vehicle Drivers must be able to read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the general public, understand highway traffic signs and signals, respond to official inquiries, and record entries on reports and records.
Physical Demands
Work is medium to heavy; half the day is spent sitting in a trailer unit. Must climb into the trailer, frequently lift 50 lb boxes, occasionally lift up to 75 lb boxes, and move product on a 2‑wheeler. Clear communication to customers is required.
Mental/Visual Demands
Ability to read at a distance close to the eyes or arm’s length, with or without correction. May be required to back/direct driver through hand signals or verbal communication.
Working Conditions
Activities occur both inside (protection from weather conditions but not temperature changes) and outside. The position is subject to various road, mechanical, and electrical hazards.
Equipment Operated
A two‑wheeled dolly.
A pallet jack.
License Or Certification
A valid driver’s license.
CDL‑A permit.
