Job Description Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a nonresidential two-year institution of higher education that serves Central Virginia – principally residents of the City of Charlottesville and the counties of Albemarle, Buckingham, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa and Nelson. PVCC is one of 23 community colleges in Virginia that comprise the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). The scenic PVCC campus is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. Classes are also offered at the PVCC Eugene Giuseppe Center in Stanardsville (Greene County), the PVCC Jefferson School Center in downtown Charlottesville and at high school sites across the region.

Purpose: The FastForward Career Coach will assist students interested or enrolled in noncredit workforce training with career and educational planning services, program admissions, financial aid, successful training completion and credential attainment, identifying work-based learning opportunities, and job placement and retention. The coach will assist students in overcoming barriers to their success by connecting them to supportive services in their region, including the services of the one stop career centers, as appropriate. The coach will work closely with students before, during, and after their training and credentialing programs to provide support throughout the program and into the workforce. This position is supported by grant funding and is fully funded through June 30, 2028. Extension of the position beyond this period is dependent upon the availability of continued grant funding.

Duties and Responsibilities

Effectively guides and advises prospective and current students through career decision making process, using career assessment instruments and job market data to help students identify career, educational, and training options, inclusive of short-term career training and credential programs.

Support workforce program enrollment by facilitating individual and group funding and registration sessions to connect prospective students to appropriate funding.

Processes FastForward, G3 and FANTIC funding applications.

Meets with students facing barriers to successful completion and/or credential to identify resources and services needed for program completion and career success.

Provides job search, resume writing, interview, and professional soft skills assistance through one-on-one sessions and classroom workshops.

Participates in outreach activities on and off campus to promote FastForward programs to the community and community partners.

Cultivates relationships with employers to impact post-completion employment and track student employment outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

Basic knowledge and experience in career assessment, action plan development, job search, resume writing, interview skills, and soft skills training.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to collaborate effectively and build networks with workforce partners and employers.

Familiarity with workforce credential training, workforce development programs (e.g., WIOA, RVHI) and labor market information.

Knowledge of student resources such as financial aid/funding assistance and supportive services.

Experience working with individuals from under-resourced populations and knowledge of TANF or SNAP.

Experience with data systems (CRMs) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.

Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to effectively follow up and follow through.

Current Virginia Career Coach Certification or ability to complete the Virginia Career Coach Certification Program within 6 months of employment.

Additional Considerations

Proficiency with a student information system, such as Lumens Workforce Enterprise System, Peoplesoft SIS, or EAB Navigate.

Knowledge of VCCS FastForward workforce programs and funding assistance programs, i.e. WCG, G3, and/or FANTIC.

Experience in career coaching, advising, enrollment services, or case management.
