Position Summary The Lab Support Technician I plays a crucial role in the CDL CAP/CLIA accredited laboratory, which is dedicated to ensuring high quality, efficient, and reliable clinical trial results. An important aspect of CAP/CLIA regulations is ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results. The position is primarily responsible for clinical trial sample preparation, recording essential information on laboratory documents, routine instrument maintenance, and operation of laboratory equipment. Additionally, the candidate will have the opportunity to be cross‑trained in sample management and molecular laboratory activities. This role involves significant client interaction, focusing on regulated clinical research with an emphasis on attention to detail. To comply with the laboratory’s regulations, this position will complete an annual competency assessment. The ideal candidate is motivated, energetic, forward‑thinking, and possesses outstanding leadership development and/or technical skills, organizational awareness, and a commitment to excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with pre‑analytical preparation of specimens for daily testing (e.g., printing labels, uncap/cap specimen tubes, aliquot specimens, prepare racks, worklists, enter/scan specimens and load automated instruments).

Assist with routine instrument maintenance on some equipment.

Pipette calibration and specimen inventory upkeep.

Clean, organize and maintain work area, glassware, and laboratory equipment (e.g., refrigerators, freezers, supply cabinets, as needed).

Work with the laboratory scientist to review/troubleshoot procedures and work assignments.

Assure the accuracy of all tests performed by adhering to the laboratory’s Quality Control SOPs.

Participate in the laboratory inventory program that provides adequate inventories of reagents and supplies.

Proven consistent pipetting skills and aseptic technique.

Efficiently execute experimental design to generate data that confirms the analytical methods are accurate and reproducible, inline with client’s expectations.

Contemporaneously and accurately document experiments, data, technical reports, and findings electronically in an accessible manner.

Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.

All tasks performed in CAP/CLIA regulated environment, CAP/CLIA standards must be observed.

Adhere to the requirements of the client and company Quality System.

Follow guidelines set forth by clients and the company Quality Manual and Safety/Chemical Hygiene Plan.

Other duties as defined by Manager, department needs and workload.

Skills & Proficiencies

Proven Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint skills.

Ability to understand scientific terminology and communicate it to others.

Knowledge of CAP CLIA regulations.

Education and Experience

Associate’s degree in biology or a related field.

Minimum one (1) year experience in general biology laboratory techniques.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.

Compensation Range: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour (actual compensation may vary depending on location, education, experience, and skillset).
