Driller/Exploration Team Member II
General Responsibilities
Exploration Team Members (ETMs) perform subsurface exploration using conventional drilling and in-situ testing techniques, including auger drilling, mud rotary drilling, air rotary drilling, diamond bit coring, cone penetration testing (CPT), pressure meter testing, and rock dilatometer testing. They also install instrumentation such as piezometers, monitor wells, and inclinometers, work as part of a multi‑person team, and conduct daily tasks such as surveying drilling points, site reconnaissance, load/unload tools and materials, sample classification, routine maintenance and repairs, and preparation of internal field forms and external DOT logs.
Essential Roles And Responsibilities
Operate a geotechnical drill rig to advance shallow boreholes in soil.
Oversee a 2‑man drill crew for all drilling operations.
Install instrumentation and monitoring wells.
Perform routine repairs and maintenance on drilling equipment.
Conduct basic surveying, site reconnaissance, and utility clearance tasks.
Drive all forms of drilling equipment to and from project locations.
Inspect and complete routine maintenance of equipment independently.
Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards; participate in pre‑task planning and report safety issues to management.
Maintain quality standards on all projects.
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum 1 year of experience in drilling or related field.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card within the first 30 days of employment.
State‑specific driller/well installation licensure, if applicable.
Preferred Certification and Skills
Experience in in‑situ test methods.
Experience in instrumentation installation.
Experience in barge drilling, angle drilling, and environmental drilling.
Regional drilling licensure.
Valid Class A or B commercial driver’s license.
