Job Summary The Prep Cook supports the food and beverage department by preparing food prior to the cooking stage. Responsibilities include cutting vegetables and fruit, rotating items on buffet lines, communicating with coworkers, separating deliveries, storing items properly, and performing additional duties as assigned by the Sous Chef.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Keep the kitchen clean and orderly.
Ensure all ingredients are in stock for the Chef to complete their menu.
Wash cutlery and dishes.
Parboil foods to allow efficient cooking.
Season and prepare the necessary ingredients for cooking.
Prepare simple dishes such as salads or other less complex menu items.
Set out all the Chef’s ingredients before each shift and refill as necessary.
Required Skills and Abilities In addition to the duties described above, each team member must:
Attend required training sessions offered by the Company.
Obtain and retain required license(s).
Perform duties in compliance with local laws and regulations.
Take steps to prevent minors from gambling, drinking alcohol, or purchasing tobacco in gambling areas.
Have knowledge of relevant ordinances, regulations, laws, policies, and procedures relating to the team member’s department.
Have knowledge of the Property’s programs to address problem gaming.
Report any acts of wrongdoing.
Education and Experience
Basic culinary knowledge and ability to follow directions.
Willingness to advance into a skilled cooking position.
Ability to stand for longer than 8 hours.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
Virginia Racing Commission License
Valid Driver’s License with at least three (3) years of driving experience.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions The job requires frequent sitting or standing, walking, use of hands to finger reach, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking or hearing. The employee may be required to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. The noise level is moderate to loud. The employee may circulate throughout assigned areas, including a smoking area, and actively observe players and machine functioning.
