Requirements
Education or ongoing studies in the humanities, in particular history, anthropology, ethnology, cultural or religious studies, cultural studies, or related fields (student/doctoral candidate status or relevant academic degree);
Experience in archival work;
Very good active knowledge of English and at least very good passive knowledge of Polish and Czech, allowing for analyzing the archival materials in these languages;
Knowledge of other foreign languages (besides Polish, Czech, and English);
Communication skills and ability to work with people;
Experience in research work;
Publications in internationally recognized academic journals;
Ability to work in Microsoft / Google workspace.
Specific Requirements Description of Duties
The successful candidate will collaborate for 12 months on the project “Documents and Bureaucracy in the formerly German lands: State Making, Regulating and Controlling in Poland and Czechoslovakia (1940s-1970s)” conducted at the Institute of Slavic Studies, PAS. Their main duties will include:
Scope of work:
Analysis of archival materials collected from Polish and Czech archives and libraries;
Preparation of one scientific article in English, on a topic agreed upon with the PI and based on the collected materials, followed by submission to an international journal;
Dissemination of research results.
Administrative tasks: Administrative work related to the project (reporting and documentation).
Carrying out the indicated tasks within the project;
Receiving a research scholarship of
PLN 5,000 gross-gross per month
for
12 months , based on a written scholarship agreement between the host institution and the selected candidate. The agreement must be signed before the start date and will specify the scope of work, scholarship amount, payment period, and conditions;
Possibility of funding an additional archival query in Poland or the Czech Republic, as needed, and participation in one academic conference;
Access to a project laptop and tablet for project‑related work during scholarship.
The scholarship is awarded in accordance with the
NCN Regulations on Scholarships
(NCN Council Resolution No. 25/2019 of 14 March 2019).
Eligibility criteria
NCN scholarships may be awarded to a person who meets any of the following criteria:
is a student of a full‑time first or second‑cycle degree programme or uniform Master’s studies at a university in Poland;
is a doctoral candidate at a doctoral school (within the meaning of the Act on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018)
does not receive any other scholarship or remuneration financed from NCN funds.
Selection process

Evaluation of submitted documents for completeness and compliance with the eligibility criteria.
An online interview (videoconference). The date will be sent to the e‑mail address provided by the candidate.
The Recruitment Committee evaluates applications using a points‑based system and prepares a ranking of candidates. Decisions of the Committee are final and cannot be appealed.

Document confirming student/doctoral status at a Polish university/institute;
A cover letter in which the candidate outlines their proposed participation in the project, taking into account a 12‑month period of work and engagement with existing sources ;
A copy of a certificate indicating knowledge of English; if the candidate does not possess the certificate, the interview will be conducted in English for the purposes of verification;
A list of publications with an attached thesis or publication attached in the form of a published article ;
