The West Genesee Central School District is seeking dedicated and responsible individuals to join our Transportation Department as School Bus Attendants. This is a vital role focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of our students during transport to and from school.
Pay Rate:
$20.00 per hour (Substitute Rate: $19 per hour)
The School Bus Attendant is responsible for assisting the bus driver in maintaining a safe, efficient, and orderly environment on the school bus. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Student Safety:
Ensuring the safe loading and unloading of students at designated stops and maintaining proper behavior on the bus.
Assistance:
Assisting students, especially those with special needs or mobility challenges, in securely boarding, seating, and exiting the bus. This may involve operating lifts, securing wheelchairs, and fastening safety vests/belts.
Supervision:
Monitoring students throughout the route to prevent conflicts, distractions, and unsafe behaviors, and reporting any significant issues to the driver and/or supervisor.
Emergency Support:
Assisting the driver during emergency situations, including evacuations, as instructed.
Communication:
Interacting professionally and respectfully with students, parents, school staff, and the bus driver.
Equipment Checks:
Ensuring all safety equipment, such as car seats, restraints, and securement devices, are in proper working order prior to and after each route.
