Driller – Geotechnical / Environmental
Company Location – Altoona, PA
Responsibilities and Skills:
Operation drill rig and oversight of drilling operations for auger borings, standard penetration test (SPT) sampling, rock coring, monitoring well installations, infiltration testing and other types of drilling, as required
Assesses soil stability for construction projects and identify potential contamination in environmental projects
Prepare drilling equipment, log findings, install monitoring wells, and perform tests to ensure project safety and environmental compliance
Maintenance of company’s drill rigs and utility locating units
Supervision and mentoring of drilling assistant
Clear communication skills, both written and verbal
Sound organizational and problem‑solving skills
Must be able to sit/stand/kneel/reach/climb for extended periods of time
Individually able to lift 50 pounds, more weight with assistance
OSHA 40 Hour Training provided if not trained
Willingness to learn and follow all client and company protocols
Minimum Qualifications:
2+ years Environment and/or Geotechnical drilling with Heavy Equipment Operations is highly preferred
Valid Class A or B CDL is a plus with a clean driving record
Previous Groundwater/Soil Sampling and other Geological/Hydrogeological Investigations knowledge
Proficient computer skills and smart phones /tablet experience
Ability to use electronic logging devices for CDL hours of service
Experience with Geoprobes and/or Soil Scout drill rigs is a plus
Experience with Installation of Monitoring Wells and Soil Borings is a plus
Must be able to work with moderate to high noise levels, i.e., heavy equipment and drilling
Must be able to work on diverse types of terrain and in all types of weather conditions, majority of time will be spent outdoors at various extreme conditions (hot/cold, wet/dry)
High School degree or equivalent
Pre‑employment Drug Screening and Background checks required
Schedule / Benefits Overview:
Hourly rate based on experience
Monday – Friday, with an occasional weekend. Averages 45-60 hours a week.
Overtime required at times, Must be adaptable to last minute change of schedule
Position includes frequent overnight travel. On average, 3 nights out per week
Company pays for all food/lodging while traveling
ESOP stock options given after eligibility period - Employee‑owned company
Medical/Vision insurance is available on the 1st of the month after 60 days of service
401K available after eligibility period
Holiday pay, Paid time off accrued on the bi‑weekly paycheck
