Montana Correctional Enterprises (MCE)

lies at the heart of the Montana Department of Corrections’ Programs and Rehabilitations Division. Employees work closely with inmate workers, teaching job skills along with the work ethic for which Big Sky Country is known. Whether it’s by herding cattle, working under the hood of a vehicle, crafting custom log furniture, or welding, the men and women involved in MCE programs while incarcerated leave prison knowing their future is as bright as they choose to make it.

Food Factory Supervisor Trainer

is responsible for training and supervising inmate workers in all aspects of commercial cook‑chill food production while ensuring compliance with facility security, safety, and sanitation standards. This role oversees ingredient preparation, production order, and food quality using standardized recipes and HACCP guidelines. The Cook Supervisor also assists in screening inmate workers, maintains production records and reports, and ensures efficient operation in a high‑stress, fast‑paced environment that involves frequent standing, temperature changes, and shifting priorities.

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to workforce development, and public service in a correctional environment.

Qualifications Successful completion of a vocational training program in food service operation/cooking and/or 1 year institutional, or commercial cooking or production experience.

Successful completion of ServSafe during the first six‑month probationary period.

Successful completion of Better Processing School in the first year.

Strong management ability is needed to deal effectively and professionally with inmates.
