Newtown Friends School is seeking an outstanding, energetic, and fluent educator to fill a full-time Lower School Spanish teaching position for our immersion Elementary Spanish Program. Applicants should have at least 3 years of relevant teaching experience. Candidates should be ready to help the school achieve its goal of becoming an anti-racist institution with broad DEIJB goals. Familiarity with Quaker education and principles, and Responsive Classroom is a plus.
The ideal candidate will be prepared to lead an effective FLES program (Foreign Language in the Elementary School) and will demonstrate experience with comprehensible input, play-based learning, and methodologies such as Total Physical Response (TPR). The School holds candidacy status for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program; therefore, IB experience is preferred but not required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required; advanced degree preferred
Demonstrated proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish, with the ability to conduct instruction fully in the target language
Strong rapport with elementary-aged students and enthusiasm for working collaboratively with colleagues
Experience providing hands-on, interactive learning experiences, including incorporating digital media tools
Commitment to supporting students’ academic, social, and personal growth
Familiarity with Responsive Classroom and Quaker education is a plus
Creativity, flexibility, strong communication skills, and effective problem-solving abilities
