Responsibilities
Engineering Consulting Services (ECS) is seeking an Environmental Technician to join our team. You will observe and begin to perform routine field tests on a per project basis as assigned by others. Work will be field based. The ideal candidate presents a positive customer service attitude and understanding of ECS Core Values. Progressive learning about field sampling of various media while working both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Daily communication with other ECS technicians, project managers, and site representatives as directed. Attend project meetings with senior staff as requested. Progressive understanding of relevant calculations, data reduction of test results, drafting, and administrative duties. Learn to calibrate and use field equipment, and document readings appropriately. Incidental duties include office clerical tasks, report production assistance, and other office-related tasks. Learn to conduct assessments on asbestos-containing materials, lead-based paint, radon, and mold; obtain relevant certifications as directed. Perform asbestos, lead-based paint, mold, and indoor air quality assessments; perform air and bulk media sampling; monitor remediation and abatement of contaminated or hazardous building materials. Clearly document site observations for field work performed and submit daily reports. Promptly communicate changing site conditions to supervisor, discuss implications, and implement investigation changes in the field as directed. Good understanding of sample collection, preparation, preservation, and laboratory submission regulations and guidelines. Work with senior staff to develop an understanding of the relation of field observations and sample results to findings and conclusions in the report. Basic knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations and guidelines and their implications on findings and conclusions in studies. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required. 0-5 years of experience. Asbestos Project Monitor and Asbestos Inspector licenses strongly desired. Valid driver’s license required if driving for or on behalf of any ECS subsidiary. Ability to provide suitable transportation for use on job sites – mileage will be reimbursed.
Skills and Abilities
Very limited to no knowledge of environmental principles, applications, and testing standards. Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds multiple times each day and walk on uneven ground through various terrains. Ability to complete daily field reports detailing site activities and observations with directions and training provided.
