Job Summary
The Activities Assistant supports the Activities Director in planning, implementing, and documenting therapeutic, recreational, and social programs for residents in a skilled nursing facility. The role focuses on enhancing residents’ quality of life, promoting social engagement, and supporting physical, cognitive, and emotional well‑being in compliance with state and federal regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in planning and conducting daily group and one‑on‑one activities appropriate to residents’ abilities and interests
Encourage resident participation while respecting individual preferences and limitations
Help implement activities such as games, crafts, music, exercise, spiritual programs, outings, and special events
Provide individualized activities for residents unable to participate in group programs
Document resident participation and progress according to facility policies
Assist with decorating the facility for holidays and special events
Maintain activity supplies and equipment
Support resident council meetings and special celebrations
Communicate resident preferences, changes in behavior, or concerns to the Activities Director and care team
Follow infection control, safety, and confidentiality (HIPAA) guidelines at all times
Qualifications
Experience working with elderly or disabled individuals preferred
Knowledge of dementia care and person‑centered programming preferred
Ability to work with residents who have physical, cognitive, or emotional limitations
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Compassionate, patient, and dependable
Skills and Competencies
Creativity and enthusiasm for recreational programming
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Organizational and time‑management skills
Basic computer and documentation skills
Work Environment
Skilled nursing and long‑term care facility
May require evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts
