Assistant Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Engagement
This senior‑level position reports to the Vice President for UNITAS: Office of Community Enrichment and coordinates the Education and Training, Center for Dialogue, and Climate Concerns divisions. The role works collaboratively across Villanova, advancing strategic concerns related to access, retention, infrastructure, assessment, and community development goals identified in the Strategic Plan and by the Aequitas Task Force.
Duties and Responsibilities The Assistant Vice President will supervise, consult, liaison, research, and evaluate across the organization, ensuring alignment with UNITAS initiatives and advancing Villanova’s standing as a transformative leader in inclusion and belonging.
Education and Training (25%)
Supervise the Education and Training pillar, performing assessment of university education needs and guiding current programs such as the Advancing Equity and Justice Curriculum and the “Hiring for Villanova’s Future” HR collaboration.
Initiate assessment projects for these education initiatives.
Center for Dialogue (25%)
Provide direct supervision of the Center for Dialogue, assessing institutional positioning and course offerings.
Support the alignment of the Center and the Race Justice Dialogue Course.
Strategic Initiatives (15%)
Serve as consulting resource to departments providing strategic direction and guidance in alignment with the university’s commitment to an equitable and just community.
Address issues related to climate, policies, office practices, onboarding, retention, and mentoring programs, supporting the “Rooted and Restless: Strategic Plan” diversity goals.
Engagement (10%)
Support the stabilization and growth of the Campus Climate Program and Employee Resource Groups.
Liaison (10%)
Act as the liaison between UNITAS and Villanova Initiative to Support Inclusiveness and Build Leaders (VISIBLE), Human Resources, and Mission and Ministry.
Research and Evaluation (10%)
Conduct and support institutional research projects for UNITAS, such as evaluations of programs presented by the office.
Other (5%)
Perform other duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral or Master’s degree in inclusive pedagogy and practices (e.g., Educational Leadership, Communication, Political Science, Sociology).
Five or more years of experience in higher education or related area.
At least three years of administrative leadership experience.
One to two years of supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated mastery of current best thinking and practices in higher education inclusion, belonging, and social justice.
Advanced project management and change‑management skills.
Second‑language competence a plus.
Salary Salary range: $115,200 – 121,600. The final salary will be determined with consideration of qualifications, department budget availability, market data, and internal equity.
